Welcome to Pelion
Pelion has to be experienced rather than described, in order for its beauty to be fully captured and understood. It is a mountainous peninsula, located in the region of Thessaly, in the central part of the Greek mainland. Pelion however offers a wide and diverse selection of natural landscapes, ranging from densely forested mountain ranges of extreme natural beauty to fantastic beaches and a breath-taking coastline, which the forest reaches all the way down to, from the mountain peaks.
Pelion has the wonderful ability to equally charm those with a preference for a mountain-themed holiday complete with amazing hiking trails, natural springs, ravines and traditional stone-built mountain villages, and those seeking to experience the typical sun-drenched Greek holiday, on a sandy beach while dipping in the crystal clear azure blue waters of the Aegean Sea. Why not enjoy both when in Pelion however? A fantastic choice for both summer and winter holidays, and a unique destination in its own right.
The stone built villages like Makrinitsa, Portaria, Vizitsa and Tsagarada are certainly worth a visit at all seasons. Their beauty and charm is continuous throughout the year as the landscape and local colours shift from season to season. The quaint old school ski resort called Chania is also worth a visit during winter, if winter sports are your thing.
Many visitors just love the idea of skiing or snowboarding in Greece as they have never even imagined this is possible. However, Greece is home to more than 21 ski resorts(!), with a wide range of features with regards to size and facilities. In Pelion, there are also plenty of hiking paths and trails, and the mountain offers an astonishing and breath-taking landscape which tends to relax and rejuvenate visitors. Make sure you also get a taste of the local gastronomy, and treat your olfactory and gustatory senses with rare traditional home-cooked treats, locally sourced meats, cheeses and vegetables and perhaps a glass or two of a tasty local wine to compliment the experience.
