Ios is an island situated between Mykonos and Santorini, which is famous for being the burial place of Homer. However, during the summer months in Chora, it is known as a party destination for young people and groups of friends looking for a party holiday experience.
Despite this reputation, the reality is that the party strip is very small. Therefore, if you are just stopping off between Mykonos and Santorini, you may not understand what the fuss is about.
While Ios town still has a lively nightlife, it also has quieter treasures to offer. The nightlife is mainly concentrated in one place, Hora, and the nearby beaches. During the off-season, Hora is one of the prettiest villages in the Cyclades, and the unique thing about Ios is that once you get away from town the island is practically deserted. You can rent a jeep and explore the island’s many wide golden sand beaches in peace. Even on August 15th, you may find yourself alone on a vast beach. The fact that Ios is known only as a backpackers’ party pad is entirely misleading and puts other people off visiting this beautiful island.
